SFC Donates $100,000 in Shoes in Hurricane Relief Effort
In the wake of the storm, considered from an insurance standpoint as the worst natural disaster in American history, SFC donated more than 4,000 pairs of slip-resistant footwear, worth over $100,000, to customers impacted by Katrina in the Gulf region.
Between late August to mid-September, Shoes For Crews® delivered the footwear to clients in the foodservice, hospitality, and industrial workplaces. Planning for the mobilization, started one day after Hurricane Katrina hit land. SFC President Matthew K. Smith recalled, "We were shocked by the devastating impact of Katrina on the gulf region and specifically New Orleans. We originally offered our Guardian Slip-Resistant Rubber Boots to corporate customers in the region to help clean up after the massive flooding in New Orleans."
"Then, we quickly realized that thousands of foodservice employees throughout the region had lost their homes. We saw people walking barefooted in the flooded streets of New Orleans. It was truly heartbreaking to watch on TV." "SFC Management quickly decided to offer the free shoes to these customers in dire need of footwear. The donations were spread throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama." Smith also stated, "We feel good about helping our customers cope with this unfortunate natural disaster. Shoes For Crews® also wanted to show our customers that we're a true partner and we're going to support our customers in times of need." |
